A Bright Future for Rail in the North

Date(s) - June 3 2021
2:00pm - 3:30pm

This event will take place online.

This online event will provide members with an update of plans for rail in the north of England and follows on from the devolved administration elections in May which will see directly elected Mayors elected in several regions including Greater Manchester, Liverpool, West Yorkshire, Tees Valley and North Tyneside.

Recent research carried out by the Universities of Huddersfield and Leeds highlights a significant number of companies involved in rail across the region with exciting plans now being developed to create a Northern Rail Innovation Network.

Our speakers will include:

Tim Wood, Rail Director at Transport for the North who has agreed to provide an update on TfNs plans and aspirations.

Richard Carr, University of Huddersfield who will explain the universities plans around Smart Rolling Stock Maintenance together with providing an introduction to the recently launched Northern Rail Innovation Network. The University of Huddersfield is the Centre of Excellence on rolling stock within  UKRRIN.

Paul Morris, Senior Research and Innovation Manager, Unipart Rail who will provide an update on their Doncaster Innovation Centre and the opportunities through the Sheffield City Region LEP project.

Justin Moss, Head of Sales, Electrification Siemens Mobility and Co-Chair of Northern Rail Industry Leaders (NRIL) who will outline the priorities for NRIL.
